Am 9. Mai ist nicht nur eTwinning Day, sondern auch Europatag. Dieser erinnert an die historische Schuman-Erklärung am 9. Mai 1950, in welcher der damalige französische Außenminister von seiner Vision einer europäischen Zusammenarbeit sprach.
Zur Feier dieser beiden Tage wandte sich Mariya Gabriel, EU-Kommissarin für Innovation, Forschung, Kultur, Bildung und Jugend mit einer Videobotschaft an die eTwinning-Community, in der sie sich bei allen Lehrkräftren für das Engagement bedankt, eTwinning als Lernerfahrung ihren Schüler/innen zu ermöglichen und ihnen dadurch neue Perspektiven zu eröffnen und voneinander zu lernen. eTwinning sei ein großartiges Beispiel dafür, wie die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Schulen helfen kann, große gesellschaftliche Herausforderungen auf sehr konkrete und kreative Weise anzugehen.
"I am really very very pleased to be with you on this 16th eTwinning Day. [...] This is not any day: this is Europe Day and this has a built-in message to you all, the eTwinning community, because you are participating in a great European success story. eTwinning, as part of Erasmus+, is founded on values that unite us all: European cooperation, inclusion, access to quality education for all, and strong contribution now to the green and digital transitions. [...] eTwinning would not be a real eTwinning without the fantastic dedication and enthusiasm of the eTwinning community. I am so thankful for everyone of you for that. Of course, this was a very difficult year, and I unterstand that many of you are facing challenges now with the school closures and distance and online learning. And believe me, you can count on our suppert. Still - and all the more in these challenging times, I am impressed to see just how much of a difference eTwinning can make."
